Michalis Kakiouzis

Michalis Kakiouzis is the third Greek player to represent FC Barcelona after Efthimios Rentzias and Nikos Ekonomou.

He has been passionate about the game all of his life, starting out at Iónicos NF and playing at all youth levels until turning professional in 1992-1993, playing in the Greek second division.

In 1995-96 he made the leap to the big time by signing for AEK Athens, where he has played almost his entire professional career. With AEK he made the Final Four in 1998, played in Barcelona. He was one of the central figures in the side and won numerous titles, including the Greek championship in 2001-02.

In 2003, he finally departed from AEK, signing a contract with Montepaschi Siena in Italy. He only played for half a season in his new country, but was one of the stars of Siena's Lega semi final qualification. The following year he again excelled as he led the side to the Scudetto under Carlo Recalcati. Montepaschi also enjoyed European success that year, reaching the Final Four for the second consecutive year.

A full international for Greece, he has played in all the major tournaments. He also played for Greece at junior and Under 22 level.

CHARACTERISTICS

Kakiouzis is a great all-rounder who has an excellent throw and always posts goods stats for offensive rebounds. He is highly mobile and hard working, and never seems to lose his concentration when on court.

With plenty of experience of top-level hoops, this wide playing forward is a born fighter. His versatility for playing in different positions is a delight for any coach.
