The game against the Philadelphia 76ers and the farewell to captain Nacho Solozábal are two of the historic moments that Barça supporters will cherish from the 2006/07 campaign.
Winterthur FC Barcelona became the first European team to ever record a victory against an NBA
team. At the start of the season, the Blaugrana hosted the 76ers in a packed Palau Sant Jordi.
Allen Iverson's team were the undisputable favourites to win, but Dusko Ivanovic's side caused a
surprise when they defeated the American visitors. The game was a very even affair and the two
sides even went in at half-time drawing 51-51. In the third quarter, Barça soon chalked up an
eight-point lead, inspired by Fran Vázquez, before the 76ers drew back to within a point at 74-73.
In the final period, triples from Navarro, Kakiouzis and Basile in the last few minutes of the game
were key to giving the home team the win as Barça ran out victors 104-99.
Homage to Nacho Solozabal
FC Barcelona and Catalan
basketball paid homage to one of the most important basketball players of his era as Nacho
Solozábal was honoured by the club and its fans. On the day of the first ACB League game of the
season in the Palau Blaugrana, homage was paid to the man that played for Barça from 1975 until
1992. The event began with a reading from Solozábal's nieces and nephews, before a video showing
all the highlights of his long and illustrious career was screened. Then, several former team-mates
and opponents of the star came out carrying a jersey with Solozábal's number seven emblazoned on it
that was hung on the wall of the Palau alongside Epi's and Jiménez's shirts.
