Alex Acker didn’t have much luck in the NBA and had no hesitation in moving to Europe. After a year with Olympiakos, the Barça basketball section decided to sign him and his challenge will be to cover for the departure of Juan Carlos Navarro.
He studied at California’s Pepperdine University (2002-2005) and was chosen in the second
round of the draft at number 60 by the Detroit Pistons (2005). However, he was restricted to
appearances with the Fayetteville Patriots in the NBA Development League (2005-2006).
Acker decided to migrate to European basketball and signed for Olympiakos where he soon made
a big impact. He was the 11th highest scorer in the first phase of the Euroleague with 210 points
in 14 games, an average of 15 points per game. He maintained his scoring averages in the Top 16 and
in the quarterfinal playoffs. One of his best performances was against TAU Cerámica in the first
game of the regular phase. He achieved 25 points and 13 rebounds (six of them offensive
rebounds).
PROFILE
He has compared with former Maccabi Tel - Aviv star Anthony Parker and has a broad range of
technical skills. This guard shoots well and has penetrating scoring ability as well as enjoying
excellent rebound timing. He is comfortable on the court as a number 1, number 2 and even as a
wingman. His tremendous physique enables him to defend well and also makes him a difficult player
to defend against.
