Although he won no team titles, in the 2007/08 season Leo Messi won five individual awards.
If the 2006/07 season saw Messi’s consolidation as one of the world’s best players
thanks to a famous hat-trick and his
wonder goal
against Getafe in the King’s Cup, in the 2007/08 campaign the Argentine did even
better, picking up five awards that make him one of the stars of world football.
The FIFPRO and Bravo prizes come first
On 8 November he picked up the first of the five, the
FIFPRO
which put him in the World XI for the previous season as selected by football players.
Just two weeks later he got the
Bravo
award from the Italian magazine “Guerin Sportivo” as the best player aged
under 21 in Europe in 2007.
Worldwide prestige
The most important awards came in December when he was first given the Bronze Ball by
“France Football” behind Kaká (Milan) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United).
On 17 December 2007 he received yet another award when he was chosen as the world’s
second best player by national team coaches and captains behind Kaká. The presentation took place
in Zurich during the
FIFA
World Player Gala
.
