Fran Serrano was born on March 3, 1977 in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, where his first games of futsal were played on the street with friends.
That was when he was aged seven years, and he has always been a huge fan of football in all of its
different forms.
He was offered a major break in the game from very early on, getting the chance to play for
Industrias García, where he stayed for eight seasons, playing under Marc Carmona, who brought the
youngster with him when he became coach of Barça. But Serrano did not turn professional until 2000,
when he signed for Caja Segovia. In his rise to success, Fran would say that the only player he
felt influenced by was himself, and that his own father was the person that helped him most along
the way. After playing for Miró Martorell and DKV Seguros Zaragoza, it was in January 2004 that he
came to FC Barcelona. “I have been a Barça fan all my life” he says. “So it is an
honour to wear the Barça shirt.”
The moment he remembers most fondly came in the 2005-06 season, when he and the rest of the
Barça players were able to celebrate promotion to the División de Honor. Back in the futsal elite,
Serrano is still a key member of the side and started 15 of the 16 games played in the first half
of the season.
