Rafa Muñoz was practically born with a futsal ball under his arm on March 31, 1981.
He started playing the game aged just five years, at first at Santa Coloma, where he first came
across one of his mentors, Marc Carmona, his current coach at Barça, and the main reason he ever
came to the club.
Aged 18, in a game between Industrias García and Martorell, Rafa made his pro debut, and he
would soon be signing for FC Barcelona ready for the 2006-07 season. He describes his transfer to
Barça as “a very important step in my sporting career”. ‘Palote’, or
‘the pole’, as he is known in reference to his tall, slender figure has especially fond
memories of a game against Pozo Murcia in which he scored a personal record of five goals in the
same match.
