The Barca futsal team produced a narrow win over Marfil Santa Coloma to take the Copa Catalunya for another season. It was the only silverware of the season.
The early rounds threw up a surprising opponent in the semi-finals. Mataró were new to National A
and the difference in quality was apparent as Barca stormed into the final (5-0).
The
first three goals came before half time from Javi Rodriguez, Jordi Sanchez and the Brazilian Ari
Santos (in his Barca debut). In the second half, Fernandao scored the goal of the match before
Jordi Sanchez made it 5-0
A close match
Marfil Santa Coloma beat last year’s winner of National A, Corbera, in the other
semi-final (4-0) to produce the final desired by all the neutrals. With new signings Oscar Redondo,
Dani Salgado and ex-Barca player Rafa Muñoz, Santa Coloma were always going to be tough opponents.
The
two top-flight Catalan teams fought out an evenly balanced contest and it took a superb piece of
skill from Fernandao to break the deadlock (0-1). The Brazilian controlled a long pass from keeper
Paco Sedano and beat his market to fire past Igor for the only goal of the match.
