Joan Cañellas started out at Club Handbol Palautordera playing in the junior teams for six years (1994-00).
Aged 14 years he was signed by BM Granollers, where he stayed for five seasons (2000-05) playing
at every level until eventually making his first team debut. In summer 2005, he signed a contract
with FC Barcelona Cifec until June 30, 2008. He has played internationally for Spain in several
different age categories.
Individually, he was voted best player in the Spanish Under 16 championship in 2003 and best
player at the Tiby International Tournament in 2004.
CHARACTERISTICS
He is a great all-rounder who plays intelligent and tactical handball. Possibly the most promising young Catalan around, he has played Under 18 internationals for Spain despite being far younger than most players usually are at that level. He is a dedicated player, and has the potential to lead the team in the future. His tactical awareness is extraordinary, and he should be the ideal complement up front for Iker Romero. As well as playing in the centre, he can also be used in any of the other attacking positions.
