The blaugrana team experienced a season of ups and downs in the Liga Asobal. Xesco Espar’s men suffered four defeats in the opening 12 games which left them with very few opportunities to mount a title challenge.
The objective was to achieve a top three finish to allow qualification to the Champions League.
The win against Ademar by 35-32 was enough to lift them into third spot. However, an unexpected
defeat at the hands of Cai Aragon and a draw with Portland was enough to scupper any hopes of
retaining third position.
The last game of the season
came and Barça were unable to beat champions Ciudad Real, and, Ademar won against Arrate, which
gave them third position and the right to enter into the Champions league.
Despite everything though, due to Luxemburg’s and Greece’s champions not matching
the prerequisites to participate in the Champions league, Barça were invited by the EHF to take up
one of the vacant slots for the 2007-08 season.
