No chance in the Asobal league

The Asobal league turned out to be a tough challenge for Barca Borges, who ended the season as runners-up despite only conceding two defeats and a draw. Meanwhile, Ciudad Real went the whole season unbeaten.
The national league turned out once more to be a two-way fight between Barca Borges and Ciudad
Real. However, Ciudad Real won all of their games giving Barca no chance of mounting a serious
challenge – their victory in the Palau Blaugrana in the fourth round (30-33) set the tone for
the rest of the championship – though Barca did at least hold first place after the opening
game of the season against Frigoríficos del Morrazo Cangas (17-32).
Unbeaten away in the first half of the season
A
new-look Barca Borges gradually developed their own style and soon proved irresistible away from
the Palau, finishing the first half of the season unbeaten on their travels. In the Palau they
conceded a defeat to Ciudad Real and a draw against Ademar (26-26) in the eighth round.
The Quixote Arena clinches it
The turning point in the Asobal league came in the 19th round with the visit of Barca Borges
to the Quixote Arena. Never had the league been decided at such an early stage. A 5-0 opening score
swung the balance irretrievably in Ciudad Real’s favour (23-19) and left Barca trailing by
five points in the table.
Impeccable finish
Even so, Barca never threw in the towel and produced an impeccable run-in. They achieved a
100% record and converted the best defence in the tournament to the best attack. Barca Borges
finished in second position, five points behind Ciudad Real and nine points ahead of third-placed
Valladolid.
