Barça Sorli Discau finished off another successful season taking the Play Off final after a hard fought regular campaign throughout the year. The team finished on a real high, both physically and tactically.
A run of eight straight wins at the end of the season ensured Barca saw off their rivals. Lleida
and Reus in the quarter and semi finals, along with Liceo in the final, were brushed aside by a
magisterial Barca.
Lleida were thrashed at home and away, losing 6-0 and 1-7, whilst Reus fared little better,
with Barca winning 4-2 and 3-1 at the Palau and 1-3 at the Bombonera to cruise into the final.
Liceo were also unable to deal with Barca’s attractive attacking game and went down 5-0
in the first match at the Palau . They put up a bit more resistance in the second, taking the game
into extra time and penalties, before Barca made it 2-0 in the series. The third game at Riazor
ended 5-6 to Barca to give them their 12th consecutive OK Liga title and their 22nd overall.
Intense regular season
Barça Sorli Discau undoubtedly played their best hockey towards the end of a season in which
they were clearly the team to beat and many of their rivals made a special effort to find some weak
point in the team.
Thus both Proinosa Igualada and Lleida Llista surprised Barca at the Palau to take the points
- something no team had managed in the regular season since 2003.
But Barca didn’t have any other slip ups and maintained their fight at the top with
Vic. It was they who finished the first half of the season first ending with 37 punts, tied with
Vic. The strong second half of the season showing was, however too much for their rivals and Barca
finished top, three points ahead of Vic.
