The most prolific of all the FC Barcelona sections, with a total of 98 titles, has had a season that shows just how hard it was to achieve so much in an elite sport like this.
Barça are used to winning just about every competition they enter, but this season had to make
do with the Copa del Rey and the Continental Cup. It all goes to show that even the biggest clubs
can have the occasional blip, and even in a relatively poor season, Barça Sorli Discau still
managed to win two trophies.
Irregular in OK Liga
The European Supercup was won by Vic, and a week later saw the start of a Liga season that
featured too many ups and downs for the first team, with unexpected defeats to teams they usually
beat easily. But they stayed in the hunt until the end, before eventually seeing the title go to
their old rivals from Reus, all thanks to Barcelona’s own win on the final day against Liceo
at the Palau.
More fortune in Copa del Rey
The Copa del Rey came shortly after Barça had won the Continental Cup in Bilbao against an
excellent Liceo. In the Spanish knockout cup at the Nova Ciutat Esportiva in Blanes, FCB produced
their best hockey of the year to power past Vilanova, Liceo and Reus and get their hands on the
coveted trophy.
Disappointment in Final Eight
Despite having three weeks to prepare for the Champions League, knowing that the OK Liga
challenge was over after drawing 2-2 with Reus, Barça crashed out to a golden goal in the quarter
final to Porto.
The new Final Eight format means teams have to get it right three times in a row, and despite
playing a near perfect qualifying competition, Barça Sorli Discau, found themselves going out at
the very first hurdle when it really mattered. The European elimination put an end to a
disappointing season for Barça Sorli Discau.
