After three years on loan to Roncato Patí Vic, Sergi Fernández has come to Barça Sorli Discau for 2010. He is a world class goalkeeper to add to the star studded FCB squad.
Fernández is famed for his work-ethic and effort, for his excellent positioning, for his rapid
reactions and his unbeatable reflexes (he is one of the few keepers who can stop balls with his
helmet). He is quite simply an astounding keeper.
Barça Sorli Discau have been following him for three years before coming to this agreement to
sign him. Sergi Fernández was given playing experience over this period with Vic, but now he is
finally to form a full part of the Barça first team.
Sergi Fernández will be competing for a first team, place with Aitor Egurrola.
Career
Born in the Mallorcan town of Calvià, Sergi Fernández moved at the age of two to Caldes de
Montbui, which is where he was introduced to roller hockey. He is the middle one of three brothers.
His older brother is also a roller hockey player, while his younger Dani plays football and is a
photographer.
Fernández played school hockey in Caldes before going to Vic at the age of 11.
He soon won the respect of his coaches, with his big test being the time he replaced the
famous Víctor Agramunt, who was on the verge of retiring. Fernández did the job and has now become
a recognisable face in the OK Liga and the European League.
