Debut at Specials Olympics

Two FC Barcelona ice skaters, Manuel and Iulen, have become the club’s first ever participants in the Specials Olympics.
The event is being held in Boise, Idaho, and Manuel and Iulen made their debut having earlier
paraded at the Specials Olympics Opening Ceremony and then making their sporting debuts in the
compulsory programme.
Pleased and excited
FC Barcelona’s representatives have enjoyed their
Olympic ‘baptism’ with Manuel finishing third and Iulen sixth in the compulsory
programme. The manager of the FC Barcelona Ice Rink, Marta Cierco, is in Boise to support the two
Barça skaters and said “they both skated very well, but some of the other entrants have been
skating for much longer.”
But the experience has been a major benefit, and the director added that “it has been
great for them and nothing else really matters. We are delighted with everything that these two
sportspeople have gone through.”
More to come
The competition has not yet ended for the duo. The both still
have their extended programme to perform on February 10. Both have worked extremely hard to get
this chance to come to the Specials Olympics, and the recognition they are getting is fully
deserved.
