Creus says Xavi Pascual is to stay
Jordi Clos
Barça’s new director of basketball has announced that the club has agreed basic terms with Xavi Pascual for him to stay on as AXA FC Barcelona coach over the next two seasons.
Xavier Pascual
has been chosen by AXA Barça to manage the basketball first team. The decision was announced
by the club’s new director of basketball Joan Creus at his introductory press conference.
“We’ve agreed basic terms with Xavi Pascual for two years because we think that since
February the side has improved significantly and he has shown he can do the job,” Creus said.
The right man
“We’ve looked at what he’s done, as he took
over at a difficult time and has brought the team along,” added Creus. “From the
technical and tactical points of view and also of being able to handle the players, we reckon
he’s the right man for the job.” The new director of basketball admitted having looked
at other coaches but said that in the end he had come to the conclusion that Pascual was “the
best choice”.
Board are very happy
Chairman Joan Laporta and basketball section head Josep Cubells introduced Joan Creus in the
Camp Nou press room and spoke about the choice of Xavi Pascual. “The board is especially
happy that Creus believes Pascual is the best choice,” said Laporta, while Cubells also
publicly supported the decision of the new director of basketball.
