Marc Gasol will follow his brother Pau and Joan Carles Navarro to become the third player to have come up through the Barça academy to go to the NBA. He announced his intention to make the move at a press conference this lunchtime.
The centre, who came up through the Barça academy and played for the first team in the 2004/05 and
2005/06 seasons, announced this lunchtime that he is to play in the NBA next season. The Memphis
Grizzlies hold his NBA rights but a transfer to another franchise in the world’s best league
has not been ruled out.
From Los Angeles to Memphis
Last summer Marc Gasol was a second round draft pick in position 48 for the Los Angeles
Lakers. However in February rights to the player were transferred to the Memphis outfit as part of
the transaction that took his brother Pau to the Lakers.
MVP in the ACB
Marc, 23 years old and 2.15 m tall, announced at a press conference held in a hotel in Girona
that “my plan is to play in the NBA” after two good seasons with Akasvayu Girona. Marc
Gasol was named MVP in the regular season with better ratings than those of Arvydas Sabonis.
