FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Juan Carlos Navarro to lower his release clause so that he can fulfil his dream of playing in the NBA.
Negotiations between Barça and Joan Carlos Navarro have been easy and productive. FC Barcelona has
lowered his release clause in order to pave the way for his move to the NBA. At the moment
it’s still not clear which team he will move to but Juan Carlos is delighted at the
challenges opening up to him and the help he’s received from Barça. He told us: “Barça
have made the process so much easier”.
Team still to be decided
Now it’s down to Navarro’s agents to sort out the details.
Speaking before leaving for his Andorra training camp, he told us: “My agents are studying
what would be the best option. My rights are held by Washington, but we need to look carefully at
where I’ll play”.
Back to Barça
However, Navarro is quite clear about what he’ll do after his American adventure:
“If things don’t go well for me or if I’m not comfortable, I’ll come back
to Barça”. Juan Carlos Navarro has been mulling over a move to the NBA for some time and was
selected by Michael Jordan’s Washington Wizards in the second round of the 2002 draft (number
40). He’s up for a change of scene though he admits to some apprehension: “It’ll
be tough but I think it’ll be good for me professionally and also to renew my
motivation”.

A Barça Crest
Joan Carlos Navarro frequently changes his look, especially since he attained sporting success. Now
he’s back with a crest, which he made famous in the junior squad that won the Varna Europe
Championships and the Portugal World Championships, and also with the senior squad in the Japan
World Championships. He’s dyed it in the claret red of the Barça colours – a sure sign
that things are going well for “La Bomba”.
