Another ACB league title comes to Barcelona
Carles Cascante
It was hard work but in the end it was worth it. Regal Barça has won the ACB league 5 seasons after the Club’s last success in the 2003/04 season. And to make victory even sweeter, Pascual’s men achieved it in the Palau, for the 3rd time in 20 years.
Over the last 20 years, Barça has won 15 ACB titles (9 leagues, 5 Kings Cups and one Super Cup). Of
these only 3 – the league titles of 2008/09, 2003/04 and 1994/95 – have been clinched
by FC Barcelona in the Palau Blaugrana.
The last one - against Estudiantes
Five years have passed since Barça last had the opportunity of winning
the ACB league title in front of their own fans. The only surviving member of that team is Juan
Carlos Navarro. It was in the 2003/04 season and Barça reached the fifth and final game against an
Estudiantes team full of promising and talented young players, such as Carlos Jiménez and Felipe
Reyes. That game finished with a narrow 69-64 victory for Barça.
Andalusia, the promised land
Interestingly enough, FC Barcelona has had more basketball success in Andalusia than anywhere
else. Over the last two decades, Barça has won three titles in Seville (Kings Cup 1994/95, ACB
league 1995/96, ACB league 1998/99) and another three in Malaga (Kings Cup 2000/01, ACB Super Cup
2004/05, Kings Cup 2006/07).
