Win for Barça seniors (96-93)
Verònica Díez
The FC Barcelona v Jugoplástika seniors’ game ended with a win for the Catalans by 96-93. Xavi Fernández was the outstanding Barça player while Naumouski scored 32 points for the visitors.
The game between stars from the 1980s and 1990s went right down to the wire as the seniors showed
they are still in good shape. Every ball was fought for with the enthusiasm of years gone by as
both teams had a good time and put on a great show for the fans.
Naumouski keeps on
Jugoplástika Split took an early lead with Naumouski scoring 20 points in the first half, and
by the end of the first period were ahead by 26-31.
Barça bounce back
In the second period Xavi Fernández came into the game after threatening
from the 6.25 m line. Naumouski continued to control Jugoplástika’s play, but Barça’s
bench began to come into play in the last five minutes. Two three pointers by Xavi Fernández put
Barça back in the lead (48-44) which they continued to hold at the break (53-48).
Croats fight back
At the start of the third quarter Barça took a thirteen point lead with Roger Esteller firing
in the three pointers (65-52). Yet the Croats didn’t throw in the towel and Naumouski brought
them back to 70-69, though Barça managed to add to their lead before the end of the quarter
(74-69).
Excitement until the end
Once again FC Barcelona started the fourth quarter well with Manel Bosch
making it 82-74. The Croats came back to 87-85 but then Nacho Solozabal, who had yet to score,
virtually decided the game with a last minute three pointer (91-85). His teammate Galilea then
added another three points to wrap things up for the Catalans who ran out winners by 96-93 despite
the best efforts of Naumouski.
