Starting gun
Carles Cascante
Barcelona’s basketball team hears the starting gun that signifies the start of a new season. The bulk of the players at Xavi Pascual’s disposal have undergone the compulsory medical tests as they do at the beginning of every season.
First the ‘Hospital de Barcelona’, and shortly afterwards, the club’s medical
services were the places where the Barcelona squad members went this Monday on returning to work.
The main newcomer to the medical tests was on of the five new players, the Czech Lubos Barton, who
on finishing the fitness test was able to talk to Barça T.V.. Barton is keen to begin bouncing the
ball.
The C.A.R. and the sports complex
This afternoon, the C.A.R. (Centre d’Alt Rendiment – Medical Centre) in
Sant Cugat will carry out the remaining, complementary tests. Tomorrow morning there will be
another important physical check and in the afternoon the players will make first contact with the
ball on one of the courts at the ‘Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper’ (Training complex).
Barton, keen to play
Lubos Barton spoke to Barça T.V. on finishing his fitness test. The player, who is impatient to
play in the Barça shirt, hopes to do a good job in the ranks of Barcelona: “I’ve come
from D.K.V. Joventut, where I think I did a good job for three seasons. Now I hope to do just as
well here.”
Barton, however, warns that even though the club “has made good signings”, the
good side of which “will have to be shown on the court, because in the A.C.B. League as well
as in the Euroleague there are good teams which could complicate things.”
