Catalan League goes to Penya (83-95)
Sònia de Alba
DKV Juventut have beaten Regal Barça by 83-95 in the final of the Catalan League. The black-and-greens dominated almost all of the game and regain the title they won last season in Badalona.
Things continued pretty much the same until the break. Mallet was causing all sorts of problems on
the outside, ably assisted by Jagla and Jasaitis. Between the three of them, the difference soared
to 14 points.
Without messing about, Barça started to row against the current once again and in a minute
and a half Vazquez and Grimau put on nine points without reply to leave the score at 56-63.
Despite this, though, DKV Juventut remained in control.
After trailing for thirty minutes, Regalo Barça gave it
everything in the final quarter. A Sombrero three-pointer (71-78), and an Anderson basket 50
seconds later (74-80) forced Alonso to stem the flow with a time-out.
The break gave him the chance to reorganise his players. Mallet excelled to the end and
Anderson rounded off the scoring with a 2 + 1 (83-95).
Mallet: MVP
His 29 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in 32 minutes on
court easily won him the game’s MVP. He was a nightmare for Barça and his performance in no
small way carried his team to victory.
But there are some other players worth mentioning. For Barça, Fran Vazquez hit double
figures: 24 points and 12 rebounds. He had a 100% record from the free-throw line and a 67% shot
success rate with 11 baskets from 17.
David Andersen and Juan Carlos Navarro, with 20 and 15 points respectively, also stood out.
The guard also had 7 assists.
On to El Montanya
Tomorrow, Monday, Regal Barça set out for El Montonya for a three-day training camp before
the ACB Supercup match. Barça will have Ersan Ilyasova back by then as he returned this afternoon
from playing for Turkey: he helped his national side to a sixth win out of six in the European
qualifiers.
