Massive win (105-55)
Cristina Collado
Barca wiped the floor with Gran Canaria on Sunday lunchtime, running out 105-55 winners in a game in which the leaders ran riot after their guests had dared to try and go head to head with them at the start of the match.
Regal FC Barcelona went into the game against one of just two teams who’ve beaten them so far
this season with both Lubos Barton and Terence Morris out, but after an early period of equality,
Barca simply steamrollered any opposition from Gran Canaria and ran out winners by an astonishing
50 points..
Three pointers from Navarro
Although Juan Carlos Navarro scored two consecutive three pointers to
put Barca 6-5 up early on, Gran Canaria stood up to their hosts and with eight points from Carrol
they actually led 10.14 before Xavi Pascual called a time out and rearranged his troops. Barca had
to tighten up in defence and get more points on the board, something they managed and how!
Jaka Lakovic’s entrance shook up the Regal team and he and Jordi Trias, with two blocks
and four assists took the hosts to a 23-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. That lead
stretched to 21 points by half time thanks to more three pointers from Juan Carlos Navarro and
blocks from Fran Vázquez and Jordri Trias that took Regal to a 51-30 lead at the break.
Big lead keeps on rising
The ACB leaders pushed on in the second half with Navarro again in the
points – the Barca man was the game’s leading scorer with 24 points, 18 of then three
pointers and a 26 point valuation. Barca ran out 24-11 winners in the third quarter and Gran
Canaria could really do nothing to stop the onslaught from Barca who wound up the game with a
Victor Sada alley.hoop to take a 50 point winning margin.
