Kings Cup Bilbao 2010. Did you know... ?
Jordi Clos
Regal Barça make their debut in this season’s Cup on Thursday against Cajasol. It’s a tournament with a long traditional and many interesting anecdotes.
- Over the last decade, Caja Laboral (4) -formerly TAU Vitoria- and Barça (3) have dominated the
competition. DKV Joventut, Estudiantes and Unicaja have all won the Cup once over the same period.
- Caja Laboral are the current champions. The last team to win the Cup two years in a row was
FC Barcelona, in 1986/87 and 1987/88.
- Real Madrid has won the Cup most times (22) followed by Barça (20).
- Former Barça star Rafa Jofresa holds the record for most Cup games (29).
- Jordi Villacampa (491) and Juan Antonio San Epifanio 'Epi' (454) are
the top scorers in the history of the competition.
- Navarro has won the Cup more times than any other Barça star still playing (3, 2001, 2003
and 2007).
- The only player from the current squad to have been distinguished as MVP is Jordi Trias
(2007).
- 60% of the games won by Barça (12 de 20) have been by more than 20 points.
- Barça’s ACB record of 20 wins and 2 defeats equals the Club’s best league
start, registered in the 2000/01 season. However, this season’s basket average (418) is
better than then (316).
- Juan Carlos Navarro is the sixth highest scorer in the ACB league with
an average of 16 points while Cajasol center Tariq Kirksay has the fourth best rebound stats (7 per
game). Kirksay has the best steal stats in the league (2.45) slightly above Ricky Rubio (2.41).
- The visit of Cajasol to the Palau was one of the most difficult games of the season so far
and was only decided in the final minutes (76-67).
- Cajasol center Juanjo Triguero was the best player on the day with a
valuation of 19. For Regal Barça, Ricky (15), Navarro and Grimau (13) all had a good game.
- Barça and Cajasol have the best defences in the ACB, conceding an average of 62.95 and
68.05 points per game. They also head the ranking of steals with 10.14 and 10, respectively.
- Cajasol began the season with three straight defeats but have since climbed to fifth place.
They have won all their home matches since then.
