Great start for Regal Barca
Roger Bogunyà
Regal Barça have made a great start to their season winning two titles and showing that they can play and win using a variety of tactics.
In the Liga Catalana and in the Super Cup semi finals they won by restricting their oponents
scoring through a strong, concentrated defence - Sant Josep Girona scored 53 puntos, DKV just 38
and Gran Canaria 51.
Different story against Madrid
It
was a different story in the final against Madrid though as their opponents piled on the points
– 49 in 20 minutes and took a 10 point lead in the third quarter. The team needed a reaction
and they again looked to a strong defence, but this time combined with a much more positive
response and they showed the stamp of champions powering through the final moments, despite a few
pre-season jitters. This team, just as they did last year , already have the look of winners.
Squad strength
These four wins and the three pre-season victories have been achieved by the whole
team, rather than depending on a few stars and as the group begin to gel even more, the outlook has
to be positive for the season ahead. New signings Rubio, Mickeal, Morris, Lorbek and Ndong have
already shown they can turn a game, with Ndong, Morris and Mickeal outstanding in the two games in
the Canaries and Lorbeck decisive in the final moments of the Madrid game. With Ricky bringing an
incomparable defensive intensity, the newcomers look to add to the foundations of last year's
successful ACB winning team.
