The social networks haven’t turned their backs on one of the Barça stars who’s been having a tough time lately. Pete Mickeal’s name, who this week found out that he will be out for four months due to an illness, has been on everyone's lips.
The Ara newspaper, one of the most active
Aside from Joe English’s already high activity on Twitter, the newspaper Ara also quickly
joined the initiative to give greater coverage to messages of encouragement to the Regal Barça
player.
Encouraging injured players using 'hashtags' is a decent initiative, and support has also
been included for Gianluca Basile, another of the players who hasn’t been able to play any
ACB or Euroleague matches. In the case of the Italian the reference is
#forzabaso.
The American forward has received numerous expressions of support through a 'hashtag' on the social
network twitter, going by the name of
#animspete. In fact, once created, one of Regal Barça’s most active players,
Australian Joe English (
@ Joeingles7), immediately got to work to give more coverage to this anonymous
Barça fans initiative.
Grimau, in favor of the initiative
The
captain of Regal FC Barcelona, Roger Grimau, gave his support from the Directors Box at the Camp
Nou, when he was there on Sunday evening, so that his team could present the Spanish Cup trophy to
the Barça fans.
Grimau praised the twitter initiative: "This season, unfortunately, we have had several cases
of injuries that have affected team morale and in the case of Pete it’s a bit different. The
only thing we can do is stand by him, giving him support and encouragement. With regards to the
twitter initiative, I know that a couple of support groups for Pete and Baso have been created. We
know these are difficult times, but these small gestures help a lot. Although they may seem a bit
silly, these little things all add up and hopefully we can encourage them. "
