Mickeal signs for two more seasons
Carles Cascante
Pete Mickeal has signed a two year extension to his contract with the Club and the number 33 will be at the Palau at least until June 2013.
The North American has become a key piece of Xavi Pascual’s successful team, with his
fighting attitude and willingness to accept responsibility on the court and after a year marred by
injury he represents a great new signing for the team for next season.
The Rock Island native joined Regal Barça at the start of the 2009/10 season after a
successful period at Baskonia with a reputation as a leader which he’s certainly lived up to.
In his first season at the Club, he won the Spanish Super Cup, the Spanish Cup and the Euroleague
and made an excellent contribution to the team’s success, In his second season, he suffered
from injury and illness which left him out of the team’s great campaign.
Great stats
Mickeal showed the first signs of his talent at Gran Canaria in 2009, when he
starred in the season opener Spanish Super Cup, averaging 11 points a game and in the final against
Real Madrid, scoring 12 points and 5 rebounds in 29 minutes on court.
In the ACB, Mickael averaged 10.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in his 41 games in the regular
season and in the play offs, whilst running up averages of 12 points and 5 rebounds in the
Euroleague.
In the Spanish Cup, held in Bilbao, he averaged 11 points a game and contributed as ever, to
a virtually perfect season.
Injury and illness
He put in just eight games at the start of the 2010/11 ACB season and a further
four in Europe, before a knee injury sent him off to the States for an operation. Returning from
that, he trained hard with the aim of getting fully fit for the Spanish Cup in Madrid.
Despite all the hard work he put in with trainer Toni Caparrós, though, Coach Pascual plumped
for the other American signed to cover the injuries .Alan Anderson and he was proved right when
Anderson was voted MVP at the competition.
A week after the Cup win, Mickeal was diagnosed with a lung embolism, which meant he was
unable to play agin this season. He still lent his enthusiasm and work desire to the squad and was
constantly supportive of the rest of the players. His return next season is the best news for the
team and definitely the best pre-season signing they could have.
