Grimau –farewell to an emblematic captain
Meritxell Infante
Roger Grimau will not be playing for Regal Barça next season after it was announced that the captain will be leaving the Club after eight tears in which he has lifted a total of 13 titles and bring the fans some fantastic moments.
Roger Grimau took over the captaincy of the team after Juan Carlos Navarro went off to the NBA four
years ago and soon took to the responsibility, winning nine more titles to the four he’d
already won, during a golden era for the team under coach Xavi Pascual and it is as a captain
lifting yet another trophy and for his commitment that the fans will probably most remember Grimau.
Team worker
Grimau was brought to FC Barcelona by Svetislav Pesic in the 2003/04 season from Lleida,
where he had become the star of the team. During his eight seasons at the Club, Grimau showed his
commitment to the team and as a tireless worker, he has always been a player who gave his all for
the collective on every occasion - frequently coming off the bench to make a decisive contribution
and always representing the values of FC Barcelona.
Thirteen titles in all and ten as captain
Grimau leaves after having won every possible title at the Club. The last two
seasons have undoubtedly been amongst the most intense, with four trophies won in each season. In
all Grimau has lifted a Euroleague title, three ACB Leagues, three Spanish Cups and three Lligues
Catalanes as captain of the team.
