Marcelinho, Ricky’s replacement

Marcelinho Huertas has joined Barça Regal. The Brazilian guard is a replacement for Ricky Rubio after two seasons at Caja Laboral. He will play for the next four seasons.
Born in São Paulo on May 25, 1983, Huertas, who also has Italian nationality, has ample experience
of the ACB. His first club in Europe was Joventut Badalona (three seasons), then he left for Bilbao
(2007/08) and after that joined Fortitudo Bologna in Italy. In the 2009/10 season he signed for
Caja Laboral. Huertas has constantly improved over these years and has become a great offensive
players and playmaker.
Huertas joined Badalona at the age of 21 after playing for Paulistano in São Paulo and
spending one season (2000/01) playing the American high school game at Coppell (Texas).
In this three years with the green and blacks, Marcelinho Huertas played 121 ACB games (99
regular season and 22 in play-offs), averaging 6.5 points and 2 assists. At Joventut he also got to
play in and win the FIBA Eurocup in 2004/05 and the Euroleague in 2006/07. In the Eurocup he
averaged 5.8 points and 2 assists in 12 games. In the Euroleague he played 20 games, averaging 5.3
points and 1.3 assists.
In the 2007/08 season, he joined Bilbao Basket. In the Basque Country he played 36 ACB
matches (34 regular season and 2 in play-offs). He gained more minutes than ever before and
averaged 14.5 points and 4 assists. In Bologna, the Brazilian appeared in 29 Lega matches,
averaging 10.4 points and 2.5 assists, and 6 in the Eurocup, averaging 8.7 points and 2.6 assists.
But it was in Vitoria that he really started making a name for himself. In his first season
he helped the team to win the ACB Final against Barça. In the 2009/10 season, Huertas played 37
games (27 regular season and 10 in play-offs), averaging 8.5 points and 4.9 assists. In 2010/11, he
played 39 games, with 9.9 points and 5.9 assists. In the Euroleague, Marcelinho played 20 matches
(10.3 points and 5.5 assists) in 2010/11, and played 16 in 2009/10, averaging 8.3 points and 8
assists.
