The membership chooses Senegal
www.fcbarcelona.cat
With 45% of the votes, the XICS centre in Senegal has been chosen as the membership’s favourite charity project.
Since January, members have been able to vote via the Club’s website for the charity project
that will receive 0.7% of the membership fees, some 125,000 euros. The funds will be used to
improve the centre’s services and infrastructure.
The three centres taking part in the vote were: XICS Senegal, XICS Ecuador and XICS India.
The results of the campaign, which finalised on 29th February, are as follows:
XICS SENEGAL 45%
XICS ECUADOR 32%
XICS INDIA 23%
The Foundation, closer to the membership
The winning centre is situated in the town of Richard Toll, in the
department of Dagana, in the Saint Louis region in the north of Senegal, close to the border with
Mauritania.
The XICS centre in Richard Toll, which opened in October 2007, caters for children aged
between 6 and 16. These children come from among the most impoverished and vulnerable sectors of
the population, often from broken families or from desperately poor Koranic schools.
This initiative is a further example of how the Foundation is opening up its work and
decisions to the active participation of the membership.
