Norman Foster admired by peers
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Architect firm Foster and Partners won the contract to remodel the Camp Nou last September and now they have been chosen as the architectural company most admired by their peers for the third time in as many years.
The results of the poll have been drawn up and printed in the January edition of the BD World
Architecture magazine.
This is a new prize for a company that has so much quality and excellence which has allowed
them to continue to work at international level and will soon begin work on the redesign that will
make Camp Nou a jewel in the crown of world sport.
Unique survey
In this case, the recognition comes from architects themselves. Every year, BD World
Architecture publishes a very detailed study of the most prestigious architect firms around the
globe. It is a unique survey in its' field and is broken down into different sections of activity
that all the major firms are involved in. In the category of the company that is most admitted,
Foster and Partners continue in first place as they have now won the trophy in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
The British firm continues to top a prestigious list of names in the world of architecture
that includes Herzog & de Meuron (one of the finalists for the Camp Nou remodelling) and
Santiago Calatrava, who finished fifth in the category.
Up to fifth place
Foster and Partners does not have the most architects working for them though. In this year's
study, they are in fifth place with 913 employees on the books. That is almost 300 less then
American outfit Gensler, who have 1,216 people working for them, and they are in first place.
However, the British firm continues to grow and has moved up from 11th place in 2006.
Prestigious history
Lord Foster is in his 40th year as an architect having opened his founding his company in 1967 and
now has offices in over 20 countries. Since the beginning, the company has won more than 440 prizes
and recognitions of their excellence and have won more than 70 national and international
competitions.
Among the most recent works of Foster and Company is the national airport in Peking, the
Petronas Tower in Malaysia, and the Crystal Island in Moscow, that once completed will be the
biggest civil building in the world, considered to be a city within Moscow itself.
