Joan Laporta classed the public’s reaction in the Nou Camp as “logical and deserved” when they showed the players the white hankies as they came out of the tunnel before the game.
The president of FC Barcelona, who was talking on Barça TV, said that “the reaction of the
supporters was logical and deserved, bearing in mind the disappointing season in terms of results,
especially in the league”. This was said in response to a section of the crowd who expressed
their anger at the current plight of the team in the first home game following their European
elimination in Manchester.
"We’ll give it our all"
Joan Laporta also insisted that in the coming weeks “we are very clear in that we will
give it our all to the very end because it’s what all of Barcelona deserves”.
With regard to the game against Valencia, he spoke of the importance of the three points, but
also recognised that the fight for second place – Villarreal remain four points clear –
“is difficult”. Laporta was satisfied with “the good sporting image” which
the team showed today: “The players showed today that they are professionals and that they
are the first to be disappointed. They are also the first to have gotten over it”.
Speaking about the game next Wednesday in the Santiago Bernabeu, he said that “we will
go to Madrid with our heads held high”.
