FThe Board of FC Barcelona have announced the suspension of events leading up to the Joan Gamper game. Also, 10% of the returns made from the game against Inter will be donated to the research into cardiovascular illnesses.
Festivities in the build up to the Joan Gamper trophy have been suspended by the board as a sign
of respect for the loss of Sevilla CF player Antonio Puerta. On top of this, 10% of the proceeds
made from the game will be donated to the research into cardiovascular illnesses.
Before the kick-off, homenage will be paid towards Nicolau Casaus, ex vice-president and also
Antonio Puerta.
Memorial service
The club has sent messages of condolence to Sevilla as well as Puerta’s family.
Wednesday morning will also see Joan Laporta, Carles Puyol and Txiki Begiristain attend a memorial
service.

Upon hearing the news, FC Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol, who had known Antonio Puerta in
the Spanish national team, expressed the thoughts of himself and the squad: “Today is a very
sad day for the world of football. In my name and in that of all the team’s I want to give my
support to the Puerta family, to Sevillismo, to Sevilla CF and all his team mates. I would also
like to give our support and anything else we can do to help at their disposal”.
