Next Friday, 16 January, chairman Joan Laporta is to open the first XICS centre in Morocco. It is in Tangier and will help around 300 at-risk children in the Beni Makada district.
The XICS Morocco seeks both to prevent the educational exclusion of at-risk children aged 8 to 16
who miss a lot of school time and also to promote sport as a source of positive values.
New facilities
The centre has been built on a plot donated by the Ministry of Education in the Beni
Makada district in Tangier. It has 2000 m2 of multi-sports courts and 380 m2 gross floor area with
two classrooms, a room for computers, theatre, workshops etc. and changing rooms fitted with
showers.
Official opening
The centre will be opened by chairman Laporta next Friday 16 January.
The project has been partnered by the Catalan Development Cooperation Association, the Iberostar
Foundation, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and a number of local
organizations.
XICS in Africa
The Foundation’s
XICS programme
has so far been rolled out in 5 African countries: Senegal and Morocco with operating centres,
Mali and Burkina Faso with centres being built and Malawi with a centre in the pipeline.
