The Camp Nou has been named the second wonder of the sporting world following a survey carried out by ‘Barclays Spaces for Sport', a program set up in 2005 that researched the best sporting facilities outside of the United Kingdom.
The survey was held among British fans to name the ‘Seven Sporting Wonders of the World', and
the FCB stadium has been named the second best sports venue on Earth, only beaten by Monaco’s
Formula One Grand Prix circuit.
15% of votes for Barça ground
Monaco’s circuit picked up 18% of the votes, while the Camp Nou
was just behind with 15%. Next came Beijing’s Olympic Stadium (14%), the Santiago Bernabéu in
Madrid (5%), the San Siro in Milan (4%), the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro (4%) and the Melbourne
Cricket Ground (4%).
China at the top
The same survey asked which country will dominate elite sports over the coming decade, and
the British reckon that that nation will be China (43%), optimistically followed by their own
United Kingdom (17%) with third place going to the United States (15%).
