Excellent weekend

The football team’s win at Almeria rounded off an excellent weekend for Barça which also featured silverware for the handball and ice-hockey sides and important wins for the basketball and roller hockey teams.
It was tough but the players gave 110% and five Barça teams achieved key victories this weekend.
The most important were for the handball side which won the King’s Cup and the ice-hockey
team which won the League.
Barrufet lifts the cup
On Sunday evening Barça Borges beat Ciudad Real
29-26
to lift the King’s Cup at Granollers for the ninth time. The party was prolonged,
especially as the Catalans had beaten one of their big rivals and the Cup holders.
Ice-hockey champions again
Before that, on Saturday night Barça’s ice-hockey side took on
Puigcerdà in the second play-off game. Victory in the first game meant that the final score of
5-2
made the Catalans into champions for the first time in seven years.
Guardiola’s men firmly in the lead
The weekend just got better and better as other teams racked
up key wins. Josep Guardiola’s men had to win to keep Madrid at arm’s length and did so
with two strikes by Bojan at Almeria (
0-2
) to stay six points ahead.
Regal Barça hot on leader’s heels
Then a great performance by Fran Vázquez, with 26 points, led Regal
Barça to a
win against ViveMenorca
in the Palau Blaugrana arena. Moreover league leaders Tau lost to iurbentia Bilbao to leave
the Catalans just one win behind.
Roller hockey in final eight
The roller hockey side also had a ‘final’, though in their case they
needed to beat Valdagno in the last European League group game to reach the final eight to be
played in Bassano. The Catalans their title after a
2-1
win.
