The fight against malaria
www.fcbarcelona.cat
On Wednesday evening, the players of FC Barcelona carried publicity on their shirts in favour of the fight against malaria.
And in the Directors’ Box was one of the winners of the tournament held last summer during
Barça’s tour of the USA to raise funds for the malaria campaign.
The 25th April is World Malaria Day and so on Wednesday against Sevilla the players wore
shirts with the slogan: “More than a Club. Kick it to Malaria, Més que un Club. Un Xut contra
la Malària”. At half time the video scoreboards showed a number of messages reminding people
of the campaign and emphasising the importance of making people aware of the seriousness of the
illness.
Visitors from New York and Los Angeles
During last summer’s tour of the USA, a tournament was held in
Manhattan to raise funds for the fight against malaria in which football fans paid to play against
the Barça professionals. Chris Schonberger (New York) was one of the winners and he was in the
Directors’ Box on Wednesday evening together with friend Nate Houghteling (Los Angeles). The
other winner is due to come to Barcelona on 24th May to watch the league game against Osasuna.
At training
The two young Americans were keen to see for themselves how
the players of FC Barcelona train. On Thursday morning they visited the training grounds and
chatted with some of the players. Chris and Nate also received a number of signed shirts.
