Titles galore!
Jordi Clos
The Liga ACB title triumph concluded a golden year for FC Barcelona as the club won no less than ten trophies among the professional team and four more were secured by the amateurs.
Many will remember the 2008/09 for the treble success of the football team as Pep Guardiola led his
team to the league championship, the Copa del Rey, when they defeated Athletic Club 4-1 in
Mestalla, and then the Champions League, with a 2-0 victory against Manchester United in Rome.
Added to that, the incredible 6-2 win against Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu ensured that it
was an historic campaign.
Basketball success
Barça's last trophy win of the season was the Liga ACB as Regal Barça defeated TAU 3-1 in a
spectacular play-off series. After five years without winning the league, Xavi Pascual's stars won
it again as well as reaching the Euroleague Final Four and the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
Two handball trophies
Handball was also an arena where Barça thrived once more as the team picked up two pieces of
silverware. The first one came back in September when Barça Borges beat Real Ciudad 26-25 in the
Spanish Super Cup. A change of coach brought even more success as the team then went on to beat the
same opposition 29-26 in the final of the Copa del Rey.
Four for hockey
The roller hockey team's achievements even eclipsed the football side as they scooped four
trophies. Quim Paüls oversaw triumphs in the league, the Intercontinental Cup, the Continental Cup
and the Spanish Super Cup in his last season in charge.
Losing in the quarter finals of the league against Pinto, the fútbol sala team did reach the
final of the cup but were beaten by Murcia-based ElPozo.
Amateur triumphs
Amateur success was also abundant as the ice hockey side won the league against Puigcerdà and
followed that up by winning the trans-Pyrenean Cup. The baseball team and the wheelchair basketball
side won the Catalan league titles. The hockey side, the womens' volleyball team and the rugby side
all secured promotions to the next division up too.
