The activities programmed for voting day by the club at the Camp Nou were a roaring success. They were especially popular among children, who also got the chance to go out onto the pitch for the first time.
The first team wasn’t playing but the vote of confidence reached the spectacular figure of a
turnout of 39,389 members. A total of 150,000 Barça fans came to the Camp Nou at some point during
the 12 hours the urns were open, and all of them were able to take part in a wide range of
activities.
25,000 Barça fans have their dream come true
6 July 2008 will remain in the memories of many Barça fans as the day on which they first
trod on the Camp Nou turf. A circuit with the ball and a lap of honour on the pitch was one of the
activities run by the club to boost turnout for the vote of confidence.
This strategy proved to be extremely successful as 25,000 Barça fans were able to imitate
their idols for a moment on the pitch, which is to be replanted in a few weeks time after Bruce
Springsteen’s concerts.
Activities for all tastes
Alongside going out onto the pitch, other popular activities included
boarding the first team coach which was parked on the stadium forecourt all day. Next to it there
were exhibitions by professional skaters and BMX riders which drew the crowds together with
break-dance and hip hop performances.
The dirt pitch next to the Camp Nou was the venue for the most unusual activity consisting of
the chance to try out a Segways Personal Transporter.
Leading role for kids
All of these activities were accompanied by music and entertainment which proved especially
popular with children, who danced and then made their contributions to a 4-metre long mural with
the club crest as its centre point. A graffiti exhibition rounded off the artistic activities.
