Ricard Maxenchs dies

Ricard Maxenchs i Roca, the former general secretary and assistant general manager of FC Barcelona died on Monday aged 54. He dedicated 22 years of his life to the club.
The FC Barcelona family is in mourning following the loss of Ricard Maxenchs, a man who life was
strongly linked to FC Barcelona, which he joined in 1981, having worked previously for the 'Mundo
Deportivo' newspaper and for different radio and television channels.
As a journalist, Ricard Maxenchs was responsible for setting up the club’s Press
Department, the first of its kind in Spain. He worked as Head of Press until 1993, when he became
Director of External Affairs.
Successful centenary celebrations
In 1997 he was named General Secretary of the club and was thus in charge of organising the
club’s centenary celebrations, which went ahead so successfully. In 2000, he was named
assistant general manager, a post he held until 2003, when he left FC Barcelona, and where he was
in charge of the Area of Communication, Protocol and Public Relations. He went on to work as
manager of institutional relations at La Caixa.
During his esteemed career at the club he worked especially closely with the Barça Supporters
Clubs, managing and coordinating, among other things, the clubs institutional representation at
events organised by those groups.
His efficacy and professionalism made him a widely respected figure in the football world. He
was FC Barcelona member number 29.451.
