The Marrakesh Court of Appeals has released Yassin Belassal on probation after he was jailed for writing graffiti saying “God, Fatherland and Barça”, which was a footballing take on the Moroccan slogan of “God, Fatherland and King”.
Yassin Belassal was released on bail after being given a one-year prison sentence in September for
his graffiti, which is considered an affront to the country’s monarchy.
Shortly after this issue was brought into the public eye by Magda Oranich, a lawyer and a
trustee for Barça, FC Barcelona has been receiving regular information about the affair. Oranich
made contact with the lawyer in charge of the case and has been receiving first hand information
about the young Moroccan’s situation, and has been determining whether the club’s
intervention might be necessary and/or appropriate.
Meanwhile, through Marta Oranich, FC Barcelona will be staying in contact with the
defendant’s lawyer, Mohamed El Ghaloussi, until the Moroccan justice system announces it
final verdict.
