www.fcbarcelona.cat
On Tuesday, six children from a local XICS centre met Carles Puyol and joined him in a photo shoot for the book that the Foundation is writing about these charitable organizations.
Jordi, Yassin, Margaritte, Víctor, Marua and Leila are aged between 6 and 10 and belong to the
Barça Toons and Tigers of the XICS centre in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona). On Tuesday they
got the chance to meet one of their sporting heroes, Carles Puyol.
A Foundation project
The Barça captain spoke to the children before training on Tuesday and
posed for photos for the photographer Kim Manresa. He then gave an interview to David Dusster,
which will be included in a book to be published by the Foundation on Saint George’s Day (St
George is the patron saint of Catalonia). Marta Segú, the director general of the foundation told
us: “We’re working on a book to leave a legacy of the work we have done through the
XICS centres around the world. It’s a way of transmitting the values of the
Foundation”.
The daily work of the XICS centres
The book will describe the day to day work of the centres and includes the personal stories
of some of the children who have benefited from their work. Players who have taken part in the
activities of the XICS, such as Seydou Keita and Rafa Márquez, also tell their stories. The book is
written and photographed by David Dusster and Kim Manresa, who have spent the last year visiting
the centres around the world and talking to the children and their educators.
