Snow in the Camp Nou
Roger Bogunyà
The Camp Nou had an extraordinary look on Monday – the Barça stadium was caked in snow!
On Monday, the first team trained in snow that was falling harder and harder as the day wore on. By
the afternoon, the Camp Nou was coated in white, providing an almost unprecedented image. Barcelona
today resembles anything but a Mediterranean city.
Precedents in 1962 and 1983
Such snow in Barcelona is not totally new, for there were similar falls on December 25 in
1962 and February 10 in 1983, which also filled the Camp Nou with snow.
The weather has generated a huge impact on the city, with some streets being closed off, and
trains, planes and other parts of the transport network hit by cancellations, and thousands of
children getting an unexpected day off school. But despite these problems, it has also provided
some memorable scenes, one of which is the Camp Nou disappearing under clouds of snow.
