The Nou Camp esplanade will be the venue for the official presentation of Johan Cruyff as Club Honorary President next Thursday, April 8th at 13.00.
The presentation will undoubtedly be attended by many important figures from the club, past and
present, including the Board of Directors, Josep Guardiola and a representative of the first team
squad. Important names in the world of football, who already fulfil a similar role to that
envisaged for Cruyff at Barcelona, including Bobby Charlton (Manchester United), Franz Beckenbauer
(Bayern Munich), Eusebio (Benfica) and Di Stéfano (Real Madrid), will also attend.
Lunchtime start
The act will start at 13.00 and will use a massive LED screen - 488 x 288 cm–
to present a tribute to Johan Cruyff’s career at the club. Ex-teammates and members of the
famous Dream Team he managed for eight seasons will also be in attendance.
Unanimous Board decision
The
naming of Johan Cruyff as Honorary President was agreed unanimously at a board meeting eight days
ago after being proposed by President Joan Laporta. Article 16 of the club’s statutes forms
the basis for the decision - the same article was used to give Joan Gamper club membership number 1
–and Corporate Director General Joan Oliver justified the decision as: “acknowledging
his contribution as a player, a manager and the inspiration, the “father” of our
success in 2009”.

Key to the club’s history
Johan Cruyff marked a milestone in the club’s history. The three times European Player of the
Year was a versatile, fast and skilful player, who transferred his leadership qualities on the
pitch to the manager’s office where he led the Dream Team to four consecutive league titles
and their first European Cup. And it was all done in style!
