Following U2’s concerts in the Camp Nou, the time has come to change the turf. As planned, the old pitch is to be replaced by new grass imported from Bordeaux.
The process will start on Tuesday July 7, and by the 25th all will be ready. Once laid, the
pitch needs about three weeks to be consolidated, which involves maintenance work to make sure the
field is in perfect condition for the Joan Gamper Trophy match scheduled for August 19.
From Tuesday
The old turf will be removed this week, and the undersoil will be aired and allowed to
‘rest’ for a while. Then curing materials, organic amendments and mixtures of specially
selected products and sands will be added in order to generate the perfect surface for the grass to
take root.
A week’s rest followed by turf laying
The week after the soil will be aired and from the 20th the new panels of turf will be
laid down. The 10,000 square metres of new surface should be in place by the 25th. Sprinklers will
then keep the surface watered in preparation for the new season.
Grass from Bordeaux
The new grass is being imported from Bordeaux in France. It is a product that the players
have grown accustomed to over the last four seasons. It is just the right composition for use in a
venue like the Camp Nou, with silica sand, and is the same turf as that which is used in the Ciudad
Deportiva and on the La Masia training pitch.
