FC Barcelona and former United States female star Mia Hamm have reached an agreement for her to become an ambassador for the club's Fundación and a new XICS centre will be inaugurated in Burkina Faso.
The club's corporate director general Joan Oliver announced at a press conference on Friday that
the deal with Hamm had been reached for her to represent Barça on a worldwide basis with the focus
being in the United States. Thanks to the agreement the club will have use of her image rights to
promote the club, the Fundación and football in general.
Great player
Hamm, 37, spent 13 years playing for the United States national team and is widely
believed to have been the best female football player ever and won the FIFA World Player of the
Year in 2001 and 2002.
In order to be presented officially Hamm will travel to Camp Nou to begin her work with the
club over the next three years.
XICS in Burkina Faso
A delegation from FC Barcelona, headed by president Joan Gamper, will travel to Burkina Faso
later this month to inaugurate a XICS centre in the capital, Ouagadougou. The opening will take
place on Monday, November 16. The school will offer educational workshops, psychological support,
nutritional advice and a doctor to around 125 children aged between seven and 18 in the area of
Bogodogo.
The majority of those that will benefit from the centre come from extremely poor families who
beg for a living. The centre is 22,830 metres squared with classrooms and sports fields.
