XICS opening in Burkina Faso

A delegation from FC Barcelona departed to Burkina Faso on Sunday where they will inaugurate a new XICS centre.


Club president Joan Laporta has flown straight from Madrid after he attended the centenary celebrations of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Corporate director general Joan Oliver and director general of the club's Fundación Marta Segú are already in the country.

Inaugurating the centre

The events will start at 9am on November 16 with the opening of the XICS centre in the capital Uagadugu. The event will also be attended by the ministers for education, sport and social action in the country as well as representatives from the town council and the Spanish embassy.

Barça officials will be received afterwards by the country's president Blaise Compaoré.

Cultural leaders

On Tuesday the delegation will visit the royal palace of Naab de Torce where they will meet the king of the Mossi. Later the group will fly back to Barcelona and land on Wednesday morning.

Project details
The XICS centre in Burkina Faso will be attended by 125 children aged between seven and 18. The complex started work in October and is 22,830m square, of which 5,397m2 are buildings. The centre will offer children schooling, psychological, sanitary and nutritional help.
