2009 has been a busy year at the Nou Camp Stadium, with internal and external improvements and a host of sporting and cultural events at the club‘s home.
Anniversaries, institutional visits and some historic sporting events have all combined to make
this an extraordinary year for the stadium.
Historic celebrations
The celebration of the historic treble on 28th May was undoubtedly one of the highlights of
the year with the stadium packed full of fans as the whole world watched the party to mark the
team’s fantastic achievement in taking the Spanish League and Cup, as well as the Champions
League title.
First team leave for the Ciutat Esportiva
The day to day activity at the stadium has seen a major change with the first team
moving their training sessions to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper from January and the facilities
in Sant Joan Despí have become the headquarters for the first team squad.
52nd anniversary
2009 also marked the 52nd anniversary of the opening of the stadium and a newly laid pitch,
improvements to the visitors’ changing rooms and the introduction of new technologies in the
press room all confirmed that the Nou Camp may have passed its half century, but it continues to
vie with the very best stadiums in the world.
Stadium visits
The Stadium has also confirmed its place as an obligatory stopping off point for tourists to
the city, as well as for series of institutional visits from amongst others the Singapore President
Sellapan Rama Nathan and the Indian national football team. One of the most popular attractions has
proved to be the robot models of Leo Messi and Carles Puyol.
Concerts
Once last season finished the Stadium played host to the sell out U2
concerts on 30th June and 2nd July, before the massive welcome for the presentation of Zlatan
Ibrahimovic at the end of July.
