FC Barcelona has expressed its sympathy, following the death of golf star and Barça fan Severiano Ballesteros, who passed away this morning as a result of a brain tumour at the age of 54 in Pedreña, Cantabrica.
One of golf’s all time greats, Severiano Ballesteros, died as a result of cerebral cancer,
which he had been fighting for the last two and a half years. Seve won three Masters, three British
Opens and was part of the wining team on the Ryder Cup four times. He was also awarded the Príncepe
d’Astúries prize.
Barça fan
Severiano Ballesteros was also a big Barça fan in 1999 he took part in a curious
show as part of the “No to Drugs” game, hitting a golf ball from one goal to the other
twice and beating ex-keeper Andoni Zubizarreta on both occasions.
Rosell mourns loss
Club President Sandro Rosell declared: “this is news which saddens us all.
We’ve lost a human being and one of the great figures of sport. We Barça fans feel it even
more keenly because Severiano Ballesteros was an illustrious fan and an ambassador for our Club all
over the world”.
The Club will observe a minute’s silence in memory of Severiano Ballesteros in all the
games its various teams are taking part in this weekend.
