The number 16 is the common denominator between the season with most silverware in the history of the club and its hegemony at a continental level.
Three titles in football, four in basketball, three in handball, four in indoor football, and two
in hockey. They are the sixteen championship trophies won by the professional sections of FC
Barcelona this season,
the most fruitful year in the almost 112 year Barçá history
. That’s one more than the 15 titles won in the previous season.
In addition, the four League Championships (football, basketball, handball, and indoor
football) and two European Championships (football and handball) imply a qualitative leap in the
success of the club.
European doubles
Curiously, the season of the 16 titles coincides with the 16th
consecutive season
that a professional team from FC Barcelona has been proclaimed Champion of Europe. Since the
victory of the handball section in 1996 to the double in this year's Champions League football and
handball again, Barça have not failed to win a European title.
During these sixteen years there have been four more European doubles: 1996/97 (handball and
roller hockey), 1999/00 (handball and roller hockey), 2004/05 (handball and roller hockey) and
2009/10 (basketball and roller hockey).
The roller hockey team have lifted the most European Cups in the 16 years, 9 in total. The
football section has confirmed Barça’s supremacy with 3 Champions League, handball with 7
more, and the basketball team have won two Euroleagues.
