Sandro Rosell has pledged to work hard for all the club members during his time at the helm after he was sworn in as the new president of FC Barcelona during a ceremony on Thursday.
After
being handed the reins
by outgoing supremo Joan Laporta the new Camp Nou leader stepped forward. “I am a
president for all the members, a president who will work hard to make Barça reflect the will of the
members who own the club," he said.
High bar
The 39th president in Barça's history then
vowed to keep building the club: "I want to improve everything that can be improved," he explained.
"We know that the bar has been set high and we want to raise it even higher because we are all
Barça."
Social participation
"I believe that the new board will work when the social participation is increased and, day
by day, becomes fully democratic," he stated. "If the members return to take up the position is
there’s by right."
Economic sustainability
"Efficiency in management, sporting
excellence, a growth in values and a sustainable economic plan are the values that the club will be
governed by," Rosell commented. On the economic front he continued: "It will not be easy, but we
will take austere measures to increase income and benefits. Our first priority is to analyse the
real situation of the club in the economic, labour and legal aspect and to make our efforts
transparent."
Homegrown talent
"We want Barça to become the best sports club in the world in every area within six years,"
Rosell then revealed. "A club of champions with a model of success based on a team made from
homegrown talent and the world's best players. We can do that with a new Masia and by reproducing
the same idea for every other team."
Barça family
"The plan we have should lead us towards a modern, welcoming, family orientated Barça with a
Camp Nou that is comfortable, accessible and the best and a new and magnificent Palau surrounded by
a place for the fans and for the city can visit every day of the year," the new president said.
"That is what we have promised and that is what we will do."
Pay back
"We want to pay back the members by
being responsible and by doing a great job," Rosell explained before speaking about his family and
the team that has supported him throughout the campaign. He then thanked the club's former leaders
who attended his inauguration. "Presidents thank you so much for all the work you have done and for
being here today," he added.
Unique feeling
"We have a unique feeling and that can make us invincible," Rosell declared. "We are Barça!
We are Barça! The board and I, as president, assume this great challenge and I promise you, promise
you, that we will do our best."
